Before attempting to set up a server, verify that your mIRC can DCC send files. No server (OmenServe, or any other) will function if mIRC cannot.
Attempt to START (not receive) a DCC chat - No DCC file sends will ever work, with any serving script, if you can not start a DCC chat
Sends that fail are 99% of the time, caused by firewall or router issues
If you have a router, go to www.portforward.com for instruction on your brand of router
If running Windows XP Home, check Windows default firewall.
mIRC v6.17 has Passive DCC option that may help to send files - but note that you cannot send files using passive sends for great many users.
Sends are slow
If sends work, but are slow, mIRC/OPTIONS/DCC/FSERVE/MAX CPS -- change from 8k cap to 0 (unlimited).
I reloaded OmenServe, and lost the number of files sent
To set number of sends, type:
/set %sdmpxsent 99999
in any mIRC window where "99999" is the number of files you've sent before.
Not getting Voiced or Not a server
OmenServe sees any op, or +v voice as a server
Voicing in a channel is controlled by ops on that channel; it depends on what type of channel and what they voice on.
Most mp3 channels voice on seeing a ctcp slots message. In OmenServe, this happens if channel is marked normal, and ctcp's are on, or if channel is marked s1 or s2 (then ctcp setting does not matter). Ad frequency should be at 300 so you send ctcp's every 5 minutes
Basically it comes down to asking an op in that channel.
How do I turn off the "server off" warning?
From the OmenServe help file:
Status Checks (options tab)
With this checked, OS will check a number of factors, such as Server On, List Made, Matching Nicks. Uncheck if you do not wish to be notified of discrepancies.
I am getting errors such as "* Identifier locked in options dialog: $decode (line 111, omenserve.mrc)"
As a security measure, mIRC 6.17 has $decode() identifier locked by default. That option is located in ALT+O, Other, Lock. Simply uncheck the "Decode" checkbox, but don't run any commands sent to you in channels and private messages that have the word $decode in them!
Fails to send files with multiple spaces in the filename
Omenserve can't fix this, it's a built in 'feature' of mIRC. Anytime mirc sees two spaces, it thinks it's the end of file name.
Omenserve has a "list Verify" that will locate all files with double spaces, and rename them all by hitting 1 button
Target Change Errors
Target change errors are undernets way of limiting mass spammers.
They allow you to message 20 targets ( people or channel ) per 2 minutes
Most say "I don't message 20 people", but you do.
Each channel you join, sending ads is a 'target', sending play messages, and sending another you don't even see, the CTCP messages; each @find you respond to is one; every list or file request; and the REAL killer: every "you have been added to que" message you send when someone requests your list.
Target change errors are a way of life, but after 15-30 minutes or so of connection, the list requests to you should slow down, and target change errors disappear.
On your end, all that can be done to lessen them are:
1> less channels
2> turn off @finds
3> turn off AG's auto list requesting
4> turn off AG's check que
5> make sure OS's target change tolerance is set to 0 (zero)
6> try a different server ( some are less tolerant than others )
7> never serve in a undernet channel if the channel does not voice you, you will increase your target change errors 10x
After things settle down, THEN turn your features back on.
Or just do what most do, ignore them, they will eventually stop
Suggested settings to stop MOST tc errors:
- MIRC's flood protection on
- do NOT use a AFK or change nicks needlessly, will increase the amount of list requests
- os options - channel mode S1
- os options - excess flood tolerance- at LEAST 5000
- os options - silent list que on
- os options - @find off
How do I get a Static Address
Undernet provides a free service, that will allow you to have a constant static address to make your life easier with the bots.
(IMPORTANT: when you register, be SURE to A> NOT use a fake email address B> remember the nick & password you use, you will NOT get a second chance to see it, or register again from the same email address or IP)
After you have registered add the following lines to your mirc perform (without the quotes):
1> set your machine to a static internal IP
(if you don't, it can get a different internal IP from DHCP on every boot, messing up where the ports are forwarded to)
2> if you have access to your router, and can set ports, TURN OFF PASSIVE DCC
(MIRC/Options/Dcc/Options)
3> set a range of ports in your router to be forwarded to the internal ip that you set in step 1
( I suggest a range of 20, such as 4000-4019, I do NOT suggest you use a range above 5000)
(If you do not know how to set ports, go to www.portforward.com for instructions on your brand of router)
4> set MIRC to use the range of ports you set in step 3
