Setting Paths
Previous Top Next
This command allows you to assign a path for each file in anywhere on the queues page. This path can then be used later to move the file to a "Completed Directory" or to any directory of your choosing including directories which don't yet exist. The idea here is to sort your mp3s into folders by albums. Why use mirc to do this you might ask? Well there are a couple of very good reasons.
First of all, using mirc to move files gives you the ability to keep things organized. Say you download 15 files names track01.mp3 - track15.mp3. Outside of Autoget these filenames are meaningless, and that's why you would avoid downloading such files. Now with Autoget you can set a folder name for the files or even have it assigned automatically if you're pasting from a list with directory information. When the files are done, you can create the new folder and move the files there with a coupld of clicks and everything is kept nice and neat.
Another good reason, if you're like me and you download obscene amounts of music, after a week of downloading you have a couple thousand songs laying around to be sorted. And again if you're like me you want all those mp3s sorted into folders by album. It takes a lot of time to make all of those folders and name them and move the files into them. With Autoget, if the files are intelligently named you can have the folders created and named for you and all the files moved automatically.
Here we can see the Enter New Path dialog, see that little button marked "guess". It's my new best friend. Assuming the files in question are named intelligently i.e. Artist - Album - Track - Title.mp3, the little guess button will compare the first two files you have selected, find out what characters they have in common and use that to determine the folder name which would be Artist - Album.
